Introduction of the Dutch truck toll as of 1 July 2026

We would like to inform you about an important change in road transport in the Netherlands. As of 1 July 2026, the Dutch truck toll will be introduced. From that date, transport companies will pay a charge per kilometre driven for trucks on almost all Dutch motorways and on a number of provincial and municipal roads. This measure has been introduced by the Dutch government and applies to trucks with a permissible maximum mass of more than 3,500 kg. The amount of the toll depends on, among other things, the number of kilometres driven, the weight of the vehicle, the emission class and the CO2 performance class. Cleaner and lighter vehicles will therefore pay a lower rate than heavier or less clean vehicles.

For us as a transport company, this means that the costs of transport within the Netherlands will structurally increase from 1 July 2026. Although we continue to work constantly on efficient planning, optimal loading levels and making our fleet more sustainable, we cannot absorb these government-imposed costs ourselves. The truck toll is charged by the government to the user. For this reason, we will pass on this truck toll to you from 1 July 2026. The costs can be found in the attached tables under toll costs and will be shown as a separate surcharge on the invoice.

We consider it important to communicate this in a timely and transparent manner, so that you can take it into account in your own planning and cost calculations. Below you find answers to the most frequently asked questions and explains how the toll costs have been calculated.

How does Vos Transport Group calculate the toll costs for my shipment?

Toll costs are charged on the basis of the actual tolled kilometres driven per trip. In doing so, we take into account the complete route, including empty kilometres, loading level and (N) roads on which no toll applies.

Toll costs have been compiled and determined per Vos Transport Group company for both national distribution and export-import-transit, i.e. cross-border transport.

Our scale has been established by recalculating (simulating) trips actually carried out over the past year. This gives you the assurance that the rates applied are based on real driving data from practice and not on a theoretical approach or estimate. The toll costs are per loading unit as stated in the rates and in accordance with our standard volume/weight conversion.

Does the Eurovignette still apply?

No. The Eurovignette for the Netherlands will expire on 1 July 2026 and will be fully replaced by the truck toll. The Eurovignette is included in our current rate; with effect from 1 July 2026, this will be replaced by the new toll surcharge on your invoice. You will therefore not pay twice.

How much is the truck toll per kilometre?

The rate depends on the weight, Euro emission class and CO2 emission class of the truck. In our calculation, the costs are based on government-set costs between EUR 0.160 and EUR 0.201 per km, depending on the means of transport.

Despite the care taken in calculating the toll costs, a check will be carried out on the basis of subsequent costing. In the event of any changes arising from this, we reserve the right to adjust the toll rates from that moment onwards.

For your information: from 1 September to 31 December 2026, a temporary discount of approximately 22.3% will apply. We will come back to you later with new calculations.

Does the toll also apply to international transport?

The truck toll applies to all kilometres driven on the Dutch toll network, including transport that crosses the border. For international shipments, we calculate the toll costs on the basis of the Dutch part of the route: from the loading address, via the depot, to the border crossing.

Will the surcharge be adjusted if the rates change?

Yes. The Dutch government has announced that the rates will be adjusted annually on 1 January based on inflation. We will inform you in good time if our pass-through charge changes as a result.
